An electric tea kettle is a device that brews tea using electricity.

Traditional Tea Kettle

A traditional tea kettle usual sits on a heat source, most likely a stove to brew tea. There is also a tea kettle that sits on the stove to boil water to be used with a tea bag. The tea kettle is filled with water than sat on the heat source until the water boils.

This type of tea kettle usually has a whistle in the spout that signifies the water is boiled by whistling when steam is forced through it. The boiling water is than poured over a tea bag and the tea bag is steeped in the hot water to produce the tea. This is a form of instant tea.

History of the Electric Tea Kettle

In the late eighteen hundreds the typical tea kettle was cast iron. By the nineteen forties ceramic tea kettles were favored. In nineteen forty nine the first electric tea kettle was released. These early models proved to have a few issues. The handles would get extremely hot and the bases would crack. Over time these imperfections were repaired and by the nineteen nineties kettles were improved greatly adding models with swivel bases so that the pitcher could be removed and the water could be poured away from the electrical source thereby reducing the chance of electrocution.

How Does an Electric Tea Kettle Work?

An electric tea kettle is used to prepare water rapidly for tea and other beverages. There are two types of an electric tea kettle. There is an electric tea kettle that is one unit with the electric cord to be plugged into the power source at the bottom of the pot. The other option for an electric tea kettle has a base and a removable pitcher. There is an element in the bottom of the kettle or in the base in which the kettle sits that heats up quickly and heats the water.

By the new millennium an electric kettle was made from stainless steel had a polymer handle which stayed cool to the touch and all models had cut off switches which turned the element off as soon as the water boiled, the advances in insulation allowed the water to stay hot long after the element was turned off.
